The Fear of Death

Russ Jamieson Alan Watts, Spirituality

“I was dead for millions of years before I was born and it never inconvenienced me a bit.” -Mark Twain Are you afraid to die? Is there really a reason to fear death? There is a very good reason to accept death… it will come to us all!  But do not fret, for death is nothing to fear.  Humanity has made it into this terrible charade. Religion has made it into something to fear because if you sin, you will burn for eternity.. Or something ridiculous like that.  How are you supposed to welcome or even accept death with that belief?? Companions and relatives persistently stay in contact with us regardless of where we are and will dependably be there …

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Russ Jamieson Books, Spirituality

I recently read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which was recommended by a friend of mine, and it blew me away!  What a fantastic book!!  It’s not very long, 167 pages, was published in 1988, and I read it on and off on a 12 hour flight from South Korea to the United States.  It was not the typical non-fiction book I like to read, but it was highly recommended by many, so I thought I would give it a shot. It’s about a young Shepard and his journey to the Egyptian Pyramids.  That is all I’m going to say!  There is no plot summary on the front, back, or inside cover of the book, and I think there is a …

Ram Dass – Life Is Inside Every Breath

Russ Jamieson Philosophy, Spirituality

Ram Dass speaks to us in this wonderful YouTube video.  Here are some snippets…. Please watch! “The minute I heard my first love story, I started looking for you not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along. 3 Planes – Different from one another 1 – Ego plane 2 – Soul Plane 3 – Pure awareness (Not really a plane) Your whole sense of separateness came from some uncomfortable experience which pushed you from that oneness. All of separateness is built on relationship between things. The ego is a web of relationships based on specialness. We are caught in a drama so thick based on our egos. The first thing you …

You are it! If you see yourselves in the right way, then you would understand just how extraordinary you are. You are a miracle and there is nothing wrong with you at all.. but you think there is something wrong with you.. but there is nothing wrong with thinking that either, it is what we do. Interesting perspectives from Alan Watts! Image credits –

The Meridians of the Body

Russ Jamieson Health, Spirituality

Our body has an energetic aspect, which the Chinese discovered over 3,000 years ago. It flows through certain channels in the body and relates to all regions and organs of the body. This channel system, called meridians, distributes Qi (energy) throughout the entire body. Download Facetime for Windows Each of the 12 meridian has a direction of flow and they flow into one another. Keeping these lines/channels open is essential for healthy living.  This wave of energy goes though each meridian for 2 hours in specific cycles (as shown below), completing a 24 hour cycle every day. Reflexology – Hands, Feet, and Ears

Russ Jamieson Health, Spirituality

Reflexology is a lot like acupressure and acupuncture, but instead of using the points along the body’s meridians, it is used through the feet, hands, and the ears. It provides a lot of relaxation and promotes energy flow throughout the body since each point on the feet/hands/ears corresponds to a point in the body. All you have to do is apply gentle pressure to a point.

10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace – Wayne Dyer

Russ Jamieson Spirituality

Dr. Wayne Dyer wrote a great book called 10 secrets for success and inner peace. I didn’t read the book, I listened to it on audio on the way to work each morning. This is a great way to get some good “reading” into your day. No excuses. Here are Wayne’s 10 secrets: 1 – Be open to everything and attached to nothing. Refuse pessimism – since we really know nothing, we really don’t know why anything happens and therefore have no reason to be pessimistic. I know this is going to be a little long winded, but read this Chinese Proverb (goes something like this)….. A farmer and his son had a beloved stallion who helped the family earn …

Terrance McKenna – Nobody is Smarter Than You Are

Russ Jamieson Spirituality

Forget ideology.. Nobody knows what is going on, not scientists, governments, religions. The only thing that matters is what you think. One of McKenna’s most widely-promulgated ideas is known as Novelty theory. It predicts the ebb and flow of novelty in the universe as an inherent quality of time. McKenna developed the theory in the mid-1970s after his experiences in the Amazon at La Chorrera led him to closely study the King Wen sequence of the I-Ching. Novelty theory involves ontology, extropy, and eschatology. The theory proposes that the universe is an engine designed for the production and conservation of novelty. Novelty, in this context, can be thought of as newness, or extropy (a term coined by Max More meaning …
