In short, you pick a few keystone habits (exercise, reading, meditation, healthy diet, adequate sleep, etc.) that you want to incorporate into your life. Make a 7 x 7 chart and put an X in the box every day that you accomplish your goal.
I’m feeling pretty pumped as this actually works and has really helped me stay consistent (something I struggle with). Once you start getting a chain of X’s, you really don’t want to break it. I put it on my fridge and I see it several times a day so that I won’t forget. It’s been challenging at times, especially avoiding any and all junk food… but every time I see that line of X’s, I feel motivated and stay on the path.
In some of my previous articles I talk about habit forming and the influence it can have on your life. You can change your life by changing your habits! The Xeffect is a great technique to use in order to install new and powerful habits. Yes, these habits will take a little willpower to get going, but the effort is well worth the reward.
Remember, pick a habit that you have a strong why for. Also, try and pick a habit that will have the biggest impact on your life (keystone habits) – exercise, healthy eating, sleeping, mindfulness, etc. Start small – even 5 minutes of working out is better than nothing. One last recommendation, try and knock these habits out in the morning when your willpower is at its highest. Give it a try guys! I’ll keep you updated as I progress.
